T’was the week before Christmas, and all through the town, all of the loved ones you’re visiting, and family is inbound. Parties to attend, and meals to be cooked, presents to wrap; make sure noone is overlooked. One thing left to do, and it’s not too tough; find items for the stockings that need to be stuffed.
Ah yes, the tradition of filling stockings… If you’re struggling with ideas for theatrical stocking stuffers for of your beloved actor/actress or theatre technician, have no fear, for I have some ideas for you.
1. Highlighters
Highlighters are great for highlighting parts in scripts. I would personally choose a set that does not bleed through the pages like this set made by GTL ACCU Gel created for highlighting in Bibles. They comes in a variety of colors (yellow, blue, purple, green, pink, and orange), which is great for color coding lights, sound, characters, costuming, etc. They also come with in a plastic sleeve.
2. Customized Writing Utensil
Writing utensils are one in one million, so choose one that stands out like this pen from from Ink Stone. This unique literary gifts is appropriate for actors, writers, authors, readers, librarians, and English teachers. The wooden pen is engraved with William Shakespeare’s famous quote “To Thine Own Self Be True” from the play Hamlet. The ballpoint ink cartridge is easy to replace whenever necessary. This collectible, reusable pen is compatible with the common standard G2 size ink refills (also known as Parker-type refills) and provides an alternative to disposable ballpoint pens.
3. Zipper Pouch
How about a nifty zippered “Theatre is My Sport” pencil pouch to secure those otherwise loose highlighters, pens, pencils… or even makeup, headphones and other gear your beloved actor, actress, or theatre technician might have at rehearsal or otherwise in their gear bag? Not only will it provide a clever means of organization, it will bring joy because it is adorned with images of what they love.
4. Scripts
Scripts and collections of scripts are great for auditions and monologues! They are also great for finding that next great performance piece for tournament. Plays can also provide for great bedtime reading or even inspiration for playwrights. There are several wonderful collections from which to choose, such as these royalty free options, comedies, etc.
5. Erasers
While cap and small hand held erasers may be the norm, I personally prefer the Pentel Clic Retractable Eraser with Grip. Yes, they may be a bit pricier, but they erase so much cleaner than other erasers, without smudging. Even better, they’re latex free (great for those of us with latex allergies), won’t tear your paper, and are refillable (yay for the environment). They come in red, blue, and black.
6. Pins
Pins make great stocking stuffers, plus, they’re cool for putting on backpacks, satchels, jackets, lapels, etc. They’re a great way of showing of that theatrical flare and there’s an endless supply to choose from, so you can choose new ones every year for stocking stuffers!
7. Notepad/Journal
Whether for journaling, taking notes, or organizing a show, there are some pretty awesome notepads available! These are so cute, you might need to snag an extra so that you’ve got another gift for that birthday that might be right around the corner!
8. Stickers
How about stickers or bumper stickers? These drama mask stickers would be super cute for scrapbooking, calendars, arts, DIY crafts, or journaling. They come in a pack of fifty and measure 1″ each. Another great choice is this I Love Musical Theatre vinyl decal that would be great either as a bumper sticker or decoration for a locker, laptop, or notebook. It measures 2″ x 8″.
9. Sticky Notes
Another theatrical stocking stuffer option is sticky notes, such as this Much ADO About Nothings booklet of Shakespeare Sticky Notes created by The Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild. Each hardcover memo pad is full of hundreds of colorful self sticking sheets. The booklet measures 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ and will fit in a purse or back pocket.
In Conclusion
These adorable gifts will fit in most stockings, and those that won’t will make for excellent wrapped gifts. Actors, actresses, and theatre technicians will love the thoughtfulness that went into the selection of gifts for Christmas (or any time of year).
